Use WebCT "Modules" Functionality to Structure Content
WebCT modules functionality allows you to logically group and sequence your content. The resulting content structure is maintained when content is exported from WebCT. The Content Module tool in WebCT provides modules functionality.
To ensure WebCT content is in a standards-compliant format for use with other CMSs, it is recommended that you use WebCT modules functionality. This applies to single learning resources as well as entire courses created in WebCT.
TIP: Use of WebCT modules functionality has benefits beyond ensuring learning resources can be run properly in another CMS. The My Progress and Content Compiler features of WebCT cannot be used unless content is logically grouped and sequenced using the Content Module tool.
NOTE: WebCT modules functionality is available in both WebCT CE4 and CE6.
Where to Go to Create Content Modules in WebCT CE4
The Content Module tool is used to create content modules. From the WebCT homepage select Course Content > Add Page or Tool > Content Module.

Module details are then entered in the Add Content Module screen.

Export WebCT Content Instead of Backing Up
Once you have created content and have used WebCT "modules" functionality to structure it, you can export the content from WebCT for contribution to SOL*R. Exporting is required because learning resources in WebCT are not in a format that can be accepted by SOL*R and shared with other CMSs.
IMPORTANT: Exporting content is different than backing it up. WebCT exports content in standards-compliant IMS Content Package format for use in other CMSs. If you use the WebCT Backup Course function instead of the Export Content function, the resulting learning resources will be in a proprietary format that can only be used by WebCT CE4.

Export a Single WebCT Module as a Content Module
When contributing a single WebCT module (that is not part of a course) to SOL*R, the module should be exported it as a content module instead of a course.
NOTE: In WebCT, a content module is exported as an IMS Content Package. Individual content modules (in IMS Content Package format) can only be uploaded to SOL*R one at a time.
Where to Go to Export a Single Module
To export a single module in a standards-compliant format for use by other CMSs, select Manage Course > Export Content > Content Module from the WebCT homepage. If you have structured the module properly using WebCT "modules" functionality, the module will be displayed in the Content Module drop-down list as shown below.

Server Patch Required to Export Entire WebCT CE4 Course as IMS Content Package
If the content you are contributing to SOL*R is a complete course (that contains modules), it should be exported as a course instead of individual content modules. The Export Course function in WebCT is only available if you are using WebCT CE4.1.5 with the IMS Content Migration Utility installed.
Where to Go to Export a Course
To export a complete course in a standards-compliant format for use by other CMSs, select Manage Course > Export Content > Export Course from the WebCT homepage.

What to Do if Export Course is Not Available
If the Export Course button is not displayed, as shown above, the required IMS Content Migration Utility has not been installed on the server. Contact your WebCT system administrator and request that the appropriate server patch be applied.
