The basic idea of Open Access is simple: make research literature available online, without price barriers and without most permissions barriers (aside from attribution). For the purposes of this guide, Open Access resources listed include databases of peer reviewed research that are available online without charge.

This guide does not include:

  • classroom materials, open textbooks, or other OER
  • white papers, grey literature, or government documents
  • grants
  • photographs and images
  • theses and dissertations
  • datasets
